MAIN STRENGTH AT A GLANCE Part 2

Great Usability
From its first release over a decade and a half ago, ATLAS.ti has been hailed by users for the way it has been designed with their concrete needs and the way they work in mind. Here are a few highlights:

Interface
Any combination of functions can be open together, which allows equally for extremely comfortable and efficient work. A major independent study specifically praised ATLAS.ti for its "slick interactivity between different objects and tasks" which contributes to the high degree of "fluidity with which you can flick between views and functions." (Lewins/Silver, p.) Unlike other programs, ATLAS.ti employs line wrapping of text when
the window size is reduced.

Interactive Margin
ATLAS.ti introduced the classic margin view as early as 1996.

It is ATLAS.ti's perhaps most central work view, and it facilitates work by providing an extremely intuitive environment that emulates a traditional paper-and-pencil feel. Your codes are conveniently in view at all times, even appearing simultaneously as you code.

Its ability to let you choose between viewing codes, memos or hyperlinks, or combinations of them is unique to ATLAS.ti and makes it the most intuitive and most flexible QDA tool out there.

Navigation, Units of Context
ATLAS.ti displays the widest variety of units of context while at the same giving you the most precise text segments at the lower levels (word, sentence, paragraph). Clear and concise points of reference (such as line and paragraph numbers) always make moving around--even large documents--easy.

What is LateX?

LateX is a typesetting language that can be used for

  •   Easy formatting –change formats in minutes
  •   No runaway figures or tables
  •   Fabulous typesetting of maths
  •   Good 'global control' for managing large documents
  •   Very machine –independent
  •   Very 'programmable'
  •   At the source file level, very small and memory friendly
  •   Free

A few benefits that you can get using Latex in writing thesis and journal paper which are:

  •  Understand in using LateX editor to create and maintain your LateX documents
  •  Can add LateX markup to achieve your formatting requirements
  •  Typeset LateX documents, correct simple formatting errors, and display or print the results.
We have good news to share with you that we would like to organize one workshop that can help you to understand more about this method which is ”One Day Workshop on Writing Thesis & Journal Paper with Ease using LateX”

What is good about Latex?

What is good about Latex?
Why would anyone use Latex? Here are some good points:
  • Superior typographic quality. The main reason I use Latex is it produces output that is, typographically, far better than any of the alternatives. Latex has excellent built-in fonts, good algorithms for automatic spacing and the ability to fine-tune the spacing arbitrarily. Bad typography gives a bad first impression and reflects poorly on the content of a document.
  • Output device independence. MS Word has (what it is considered to be) a bug, where the formatting applied to a document depends on the printer designated as "current". Latex has no such misfeatures.
  • Compatibility with revision control. Because .tex files are plain text, the revision control software can be used to remember the history of changes. Off-the-shelf revision control software has features that far exceed MS Word's built-in history mechanism.
  • Portability. Latex runs on virtually any operating system in existence. MS Word only works on Windows, and even OpenOffice does not run on all Unixes (though that is improving).
  • Document longevity. Latex documents written 10 years ago still work and still produce the same output as they did when originally written. In contrast, Microsoft uses version evolution as a strategic tool to force people to upgrade continuously, so MS Word documents are typically useful only for 3-4 years.
  • Macros and other programmatic features. Latex lets can define define macros, canned sequences of text and/or markup, that can then be used repeatedly. It's much better than copy+paste since it can be changed by changing just the definition. Even more, Latex allows people to write programs in their documents, which is handy on occasion (mostly for people who already know how to write computer programs).
  • Mathematical typesetting. Typesetting mathematics is why Tex was first created, and Latex continues to excel at this task.
If you are interested to LEARN and KNOW more about LaTeX, you can join our workshop.

Write Thesis & Paper With Ease using LaTeX

LaTeX is a document preparation system and document markup language. LaTeX uses the TeX typesetting program for formatting its output and is itself written in the TeX macro language. LaTeX is not the name of a particular editing program, but refers to the encoding or tagging conventions that are used in LaTeX documents. Almost any editing program or word-processor may be used to write LaTeX documents, although there are many editing programs written specially to make using LaTeX easy. Interactive websites and smartphone apps are increasingly generalizing and simplifying the tasks of writing documents with LaTeX.

One of the draws of LaTeX as a piece of software and a document preparation system is its maturity. It has been used as a writing environment by a diverse community of writers for several decades. As such, it has evolved into an effective and powerful writing tool.

LaTeX is widely used in academia.  It is also used as the primary method of displaying formulas on Wikipedia. As a primary or intermediate format, e.g., translating DocBook and other XML-based formats to PDF, LaTeX is used because of the high quality of typesetting achievable by TeX. The typesetting system offers programmable desktop publishing features and extensive facilities for automating most aspects of typesetting and desktop publishing, including numbering and cross-referencing, tables and figures, page layout and bibliographies.

MANY PEOPLE HAS RECEIVED THE BENEFITS OF USING LaTeX. HOW ABOUT YOU?

WRITE THESIS / PAPER WITH EASE USING LaTeX

The course will cover the following topics:
1.  Typesetting document according to predefine format such as thesis, journal paper and others.
2.  Other document structures (lists, figures, images and verbatim text).
3.  Typesetting complex mathematical equations.

4.  Textual tools (footnotes, cross-references, bibliographic citations and others).
5.  Viewing and printing.

An Introduction to LaTeX

LaTeX is a document preparation system for high-quality typesetting. It is most often used for medium-to-large technical or scientific documents but it can be used for almost any form of publishing.

LaTeX is not a word processor! Instead, LaTeX encourages authors not to worry too much about the appearance of their documents but to concentrate on getting the right content.

LaTeX contains features for:
- Typesetting journal articles, technical reports, books, and slide presentations.
- Control over large documents containing sectioning, cross-references, tables and figures.
- Typesetting of complex mathematical formulas.
- Advanced typesetting of mathematics with AMS-LaTeX.
- Automatic generation of bibliographies and indexes.
- Multi-lingual typesetting.
- Inclusion of artwork, and process or spot colour.
- Using PostScript or Metafont fonts.

Interested to learn how to use LaTeX to ease your Master / PhD journey???

MPWS is going to organize this workshop in September 2013. If you are interested to join this workshop, kindly provide your email address to receive more info.

Apa sebenarnya Bengkel Tulis Tesis Pantas

Bengkel Dr. OT, amat membuka mata! Stu, dua klik, tersusun refrence ikut format! Dulu dok terkial2 nak scroll up , scroll down nak betulkan references.

Galakkan pensyarah muda penyertainya. Tidak membuat masa bila membut tesis nanti.

Sekiranya tuan/puan sedang membuat tesis,

Sekiranya tuna/puan bakal membuat phd,

Ikhlas,

Shuhairy Norhisham
